Rest day in Amman and a little exploration
Mosque
We wake up a little before breakfast stops at our hotel today. We hurriedly on some clothes and get to the rooftop restaurant. It’s a cold morning, probably 5 to 6 degree Celsius but with a bright blue sky. What a contrast with the hot countries we have been to so far.
The day should not be hotter than 15 degree Celsius today, I think that is perfect weather for sightseeing.
It’s our first Arabic breakfast and it’s delicious. I am welcoming this change of food from the eggs and bacon of the past days. We have breakfast of hummus, labneh, flat bread and some falafel. All of this topped with a nice hot tea.
Then we go back to bed. We are fairly well, but our energy level is not enough to have the courage of going out. Plus breakfast was filling, so we will probably skip lunch in favor of a late afternoon stroll of our area.
It’s Friday, and the equivalent of our Sunday, the city is quiet and the shops are closed.
We decide to go out to walk a little around at about 3pm. We are 15min from rainbow street which is supposed to be a nice area with cafes, restaurants and bars. We hope to find a nice café for a good cup. What we didn’t realize is that Amman is just hills. And of course, we are at the bottom of one, and our destination is at the top…
Low energy and we are facing a long staircase… Alexis mocks me because he can see I am cursing in my head over five generations just by looking at it.

We get up there, eventually, and the area looks promising, but most things are closed. We walk to a hammam I had pinned in my map. It’s a nice place and we decide to book an appointment for tomorrow.
We are a little hungry; but not enough for a proper meal. What is great is that at the small cafe we found, they serve a small selection of Mezze. We order a set for two and that gets us sorted for the day, food wise.
The way down gets us through another part of the rainbow street and then down another set of stairs to a big mosque. And finally some activities.
This street is full of shops and life. Everything is open and people are about. We walk along it to our hotel, who suddenly sits in the middle of this flurry of activities. Literally everything opened from 4pm onwards.
However, we are tired and decide to call it a day early.
