A day in Barra, Salvador do Bahia
This is our last day in Salvador and we decide to spend it around our neighborhood of Barra. We have a night bus and we enjoy a lazy morning in our AirBnB, followed by the never-ending task of getting laundry done. Since it won’t be dry on time for our check out, we go to the nearby laundromat for a spin in their dryer.
We check out at lunch time, and our host can keep our luggage stored, which is awesome. We start with another visit that the very nice Kg restaurant we already tried. I still haven’t’ replaced by sunglasses that I lost in the Pantanal, there is a big mall 15min walk from the seafront and it’s hot. Let’s go to the mall!
I find my glasses fairly quickly – and we end up with too much time to spare, so we take a coffee under the A/C and chit chat a little. I was also hoping to find a bracelet to repair my Garmin watch but we got no luck on that front.
Most museums and sights are now open, so it’s time to brave the heat. We start with a walk to the lighthouse, which is also a nautical museum. We could go all the way up the tower for a nice view of the cape. Once this was done, we continue our stroll to the next cape, which has another fort and a nice church right behind it.
We took our sweet time, but we were done by 4 pm. Another round of refreshing drink by the beach and we resigned ourselves to pick up the luggage and go early to the bus station. There was simply nothing left to do in Barra.
It ended up behind the right decision – as soon as we got away from our posh neighborhood and traffic hit us. We ended up arriving 1h before our bus - which is the recommended time – when we though we would be there with a lot of time to kill. We wolf down a quick diner of pastel and coxinhas before boarding our overnight sleeper bus to Recife.
