Night: Mahana Lodge

Day 38

We wake up early, we want to go to PK9 beach, which is said to be beautiful, by bicycle.

What a shitty idea... First the heat today is from another world. We had some clouds the days before, but today it’s bright sun and endless blue skies. The bicycles from the pension are rusted by the sea air and are positively horrible to ride.

I gave up at PK6. The dirt road is parallel to the beaches, so we just took a random trail towards one ( which was rocky ) and sat in the shade trying to cool down. To no avail. We miserably cycled back, took a hot shower ( because it's room temperature as the water tank is on the roof ).

We overheated. I just put myself in the hammock under the shade and the sea breeze hoping it would pass. We are used to the heat, but this was another level.

Cycling was the worst idea, plus since it was Sunday, everything was closed and we couldn't buy a cold drink.

Anyhow, we just rested, finished our bags until it was time for pick up.

If you know anything about Alexis, he is the kind of person that makes us go VERY early before any transport. We went to the reception to wait there 30min before and luckily that we did! The pick-up time had been moved 30min earlier. (proving that Alexis was right, I will never hear the end of this one ).

We had just arrived that the bus was there to get us to the airport. We bid goodbye to our wonderful hostess and met again Sylvie (one of our 3 days diving buddy), who is on the same flight.

The flight is going to arrive earlier than planned ( you won't hear me complain ). There isn't even a fan in that tiny hut of an airport. Today's theme is discovery all the nook and crannies that you can sweat from. We are a mess.

We chit chat with Sylvie in a shaded corner outside that has some wind. She lives half of the year in Tahiti and further gives us some tips of things to do in Moorea.

Getting to downtown Papeete is easy and takes barely 10min from the airport. Our guesthouse is clean and nice. As for most hostel, there are paper thin walls, but we are too tired to care. God bless our first AC room for these past 2 weeks and the showers have cold water !! We finally manage to cool off from the day.

For dîner, our room neighbours from Rangiroa had recommended 3 brasseurs, which is a local microbrewery. Luckily enough it's a stone throw away from our accommodation. We have diner there, it was good.

Alexis gets his slippers stolen ( spoiler alert, someone borrowed them, we got them back the next day in the shoe rack ).

We collapse at barely 8 pm.
