Night: Village Tan Kah

Day 214

We still take our time this morning, we have until 11am to leave the flat.

The ferry terminal to Cozumel is about 10min walk away and it's not difficult to get there. Of course as we approach with our big bags, tours and other people are calling us to sell the tickets, other tours and what not. We ignore everyone, buying the tickets at the official counter by the pier.

This is fairly annoying this amount of people trying to catch your attention.

We have no time to wait, as soon as we are on board the ferry, it departs. The journey is very quick and in 40min we arrive at our destination.

Cozumel is not what I expected, it's concrete condo, hotels and restaurants all along the shore. I don't really feel any island feel. Everyone says the underwater world there is beautiful, and hopefully it lives up to its reputation.

When we looked for diving and accommodations on the island, it was super expensive. Food wise we are at Cabo prices ( too much ) and a lot more expensive than Playa Del Carmen.

After a lot of research we found village Tan kah, which ends up being super simple and very nice. We are the only guests and the dive shop is right in front.

We check in at the hotel, then at the dive shop. The afternoon is spent resting. There is a super comfortable hammock on our balcony. It's also protected and when the short showers of the afternoon hit, I can still lazily swing while reading my book. Bliss.

In the evening, we decide to explore around the hotel to see what our restaurant options are like. And basically,  after 600m on each side, there is none. It's low season, everything is closed apart from two oxxo, an expensive hard rock cafe and a petrol station. The street is deserted this evening.

We dine at a next door hotel restaurant, which was just about getting food and didn't really taste great but it was affordable. We were the only ones and it feels really weird here.

We have a microwave on our room, a fridge, some cutleries and a coffee maker. We will rent a bicycle or a scooter to get some groceries for the week. The receptionist said we could also use the kitchen since there is no one else. It's like a hostel basically and it suits us perfectly.
